To celebrate the 13th UNESCO International Multicultural Festival, the “Love and Peace – Dreams of Pure Stone” Thangka Exhibition and the Sino-French Concert were held on May 20th at the Church of Our Lady of White in the 4th arrondissement of Paris. The exhibition and concert was organized by the Cultural Activities Committee of the 1st arrondissement of Paris, in cooperation with the International Association of Myriad Tones, the Paris Vivi Music and Culture Center, the French-Chinese Classical Music Development Exchange, and the S2S Group, with the full support of the Pure Stone Global Investment Holding Group.
As the opening ceremony of the festival series, the pianist Ms. Zhou Qinling, a recipient of the United Nations Order of Mozart and the Holy Cross of the Order of Malta, led by Chinese and French musicians, and the Tangka and Rose paintings curated by Pure Stone Global Group, brought to the Parisian audience an exciting and diverse musical performance and painting exhibition with the interweaving of sound and painting.
Ms. Aligoni, the cultural director of the City of Paris Center and chairperson of the festival, said that this year’s festival ran from May 20 to June 9 in four areas of central Paris, with 13 concerts, painting exhibitions and other cultural exchange activities themed on Poland, China, Uruguay, Italy, Belgium, Indonesia and other countries. The curator Ms. Qiu Shihan and the founder of S2S Group, Hua Jing, introduced the guests to the beautiful and unique thangka culture and rose series of paintings.
Ms. Zhou Qinling and the French Chiu Chow Association Chinese Orchestra opened the concert with a piece of Chiu Chow music called “Open Window”, followed by “Wandering Sands” and “Liu Qingniang”, which seemed to take the audience to a distant China. Ms. Zhou Qinling said Ms. Zhou Qinling said that the Chaozhou music is beautiful and has a long history, she grew up listening to such music, she wants to activate the Chinese ancient music in a new way, so that more people can understand the culture and music of Chaozhou.
Afterwards, French flutist Wang Wei and pianist Hou Juan jointly performed French composer Chaminade’s Petite Concerto, which brought the audience from the ancient countries of the Orient, which are thousands of miles apart, to the romantic continent of Europa. The two artists have been working together for 27 years, and their tacit understanding of each other, the clear and delicate flute and the flowing piano were so exciting and evocative that the audience gave a warm applause.
Later, erhu player Chen Qingnian and pianist Chen Daisangm brought two familiar pieces to the audience: the classic “The Moon Represents My Heart” with its gentle and low tone, and the famous erhu piece “Horse Racing” with its impassioned and bold spirit.
The opening ceremony of the festival coincided with the date 5.20, which means “I love you”, and French singer Ms. Wu Lin chose “Three Wishes of the Rose” to perform with pianist Hou Juan and flutist Wang Wei to bless everyone. The singing was heartwarming and elegant, winning applause from the audience.
International percussionist Thierry MIRORIO together with Zhou Qinling and Wang Wei performed the piece “Heavenly Music” by French composer Alain-KREMSKI, which intermingled with piano and flute to form a beautiful melody with distinct layers and integration. At the end of the concert, Zhou Qinling and Milorio performed a piece by composer Geng Shiqi to bring the concert to a successful conclusion.
After the concert, Arigonie, the head of cultural affairs of the government of Paris 1, said: especially happy to restart the cultural festival for the second time after the epidemic, the big show at the beginning of this year’s 13 events, is this Sino-French themed concert, our audience are back, the 300 seats in the church are all full today, the integration of so many elements of music, cultural elements, so that the Parisian audience who came today benefited a lot, as the head of the cultural activities committee of Paris 1, expressed the warmest congratulations to the musicians and artists.
Wang Wei, one of the preparers of this concert, flutist and music director of the International Association of Myriad Tones of France, believes that: the music and cultural elements brought by the musicians today are very colorful, and the music of cultural symbols from different periods and countries allows everyone to appreciate in one space a snapshot of the cultural activities of people living in different regions during centuries.
